The Philadelphia Phillies' new 50-50 raffle game proved to be a hit with $126,996 being spent on tickets by fans at home games this weekend. That means that three lucky fans won $63,498 during the three-game span. That comes to about $20,000 per winner per game.
In the raffle, the pool of ticket revenues is split — with half of the money going to the winning ticket holder and the other half going to Phillies Charities.
The Phillies began selling raffle tickets during Friday's game at kiosks around the ballpark. Sunday’s jackpot was the largest, with a fan and Phillies Charities each getting $22,430.
The Phillies raffle may not generate the same kind of frenzy as a $100 million Powerball drawing, but the chances of winning are a lot better.
The odds of winning the Phillies’ 50-50 raffle depend on the number of tickets sold, but for the weekend series against the Atlanta Braves, somebody who purchased seven tickets for $10 Sunday night had a roughly one in 5,000 shot at winning.
Those odds are a whole heck of a lot better than the one in 175,223,510 chance people have of winning Wednesday's Powerball lottery, which is expected to be worth about $400 million.
