5050 Central Partners Use 50/50 Raffle Proceeds to Help Support Orlando Strong

Toronto, ON – June 21, 2016: In the aftermath of the tragedy in Orlando that occurred on June 12, two 5050 Central partners have helped support the victims and their loved ones who were affected, with proceeds donated through their 50/50 raffles.
The Rays Baseball Foundation and Red Sox Foundation announced that they would be donating half of the 50/50 proceeds raised during two individual home games to the Pulse Victims Fund in support of ‘Orlando Strong’, the slogan used to represent the cause. The results saw substantial increases in proceeds from the regular average pot sizes.
The Rays held a pride night on June 17 against the San Francisco Giants, which was an overwhelming success. Fans in Tampa Bay responded by coming together to help the cause, as Tropicana Field was sold out and a Rays regular season record raffle pot of $38,600 was raised.
The City of Boston suffered a similar tragedy during the Boston Marathon in 2013. Many during that time supported the Boston Strong cause and the Red Sox Foundation returned the generosity by donating proceeds to Orlando Strong on June 14, raising a pot of $29,730.
50/50 raffles add an exciting element for fans on top of the regular game day experience, while the donations made through their generosity also provides funds to help build communities or support them and their causes through tragedy.
The Rays Baseball Foundation supports youth and education programs that make a measurable difference in the Tampa Bay region. The Foundation has a special interest in serving at-risk populations throughout Tampa Bay. The Foundation strives to improve the quality of education, literacy and life skills training provided to youth in these areas by creating and supporting programming that meets their most critical needs.
The Red Sox Foundation’s primary focus is in serving the health, education, recreation, and social service needs of children and families in need across New England. Their goal is to harness the passion their fans have for the Red Sox and transform into a vehicle for positive change in their community.
